About Test My Face
Test My Face is a free online tool that identifies your face shape from a single photo. You upload a front-facing picture, our AI reads your facial proportions, and within a few seconds you get a face shape classification with a confidence score and a short explanation of what the model saw. There is no account to create and nothing to pay. This page explains who we are, how the technology works, and what happens to your photo.
Our Mission
Figuring out your face shape by hand is harder than most guides admit. The standard method asks you to measure your forehead, cheekbones, jawline, and face length, then match the numbers against six categories. Plenty of people try it, get an ambiguous answer, and give up. That answer matters more than it might seem, because face shape sits underneath everyday choices about contour placement, glasses frames, and which makeup techniques will work on your features.
We built Test My Face so anyone with a phone camera can get an objective reading in seconds, at no cost, without handing a photo over to a database. Those three conditions are the point of the project, and they have guided every decision about how the site works.
Built by Epica Beauty
Test My Face is built and operated by Epica Beauty, a beauty-technology company whose products give personalized beauty guidance to hundreds of thousands of users. The team combines beauty-industry experience with applied AI engineering, which for a tool like this one turns out to be the useful pairing: people who understand facial proportions and makeup technique decide what the analysis should say, and engineers who work with vision models every day make sure it gets said accurately.
Face shape classification looks simple from the outside. In practice, writing an analysis that a real person finds useful means knowing which proportions actually change makeup placement and which details can be ignored. The guidance in our results and guides draws on the same knowledge Epica applies across its other products.
How Our AI Works
When you upload a photo, our server passes it to a Claude vision model built by Anthropic. The model examines the proportions that define face shape: the ratio of your face's width to its length, the width of your forehead relative to your cheekbones, the prominence of the cheekbones themselves, and the width and angle of your jawline. From those measurements it classifies your face as oval, round, heart, square, diamond, or oblong, and it returns a confidence score along with a few sentences explaining the reasoning.
Accuracy depends on the photo. The confidence score exists because photo quality changes what the model can measure. A clear, front-facing photo in even lighting gives it the best information to work with, while a tilted head, harsh shadows, or a covered forehead or jawline makes the measurements less certain, and the score will reflect that. Many faces also combine traits from two shapes. When yours does, the written analysis will say so instead of forcing a single clean answer.
Privacy First
Your photo is analyzed in real time and never stored. It travels from your browser to our server over an encrypted HTTPS connection, goes to the AI model for processing, and is discarded as soon as your result comes back. We keep no copy, and Anthropic does not use images submitted through its API to train models. The result itself is not linked to any personal identifier, and because the tool requires no account, there is no profile of you anywhere in our systems.
Beyond anonymous usage analytics, we collect nothing else. There are no tracking or advertising cookies on the site, and we never sell or share personal data. The complete details, including the third-party services we rely on, are in our privacy policy.
